Marvelling at a 1300-year-old Maya palace at Palenque as parrots screech and howler monkeys growl in the sweaty emerald jungle around you. This is Mexico. Sliding from a palm-fringed sandy beach into the warm, turquoise waves of the Pacific at Puerto Vallarta. This, too, is Mexico. Dining on salmon enchiladas and chrysanthemum salad at a Mexico City fusion restaurant, dancing through the night at a high-energy Guadalajara nightclub, kayaking at dawn past a colony of Baja California sea lions – all these are unique Mexican experiences. Every visitor goes home with their own unforgettable images. Such a large country, straddling temperate and tropical zones, reaching 5 km into the sky and stretching 10,000 km along its coasts, with a city of 19 million people at its centre and countless tiny pueblos everywhere, can hardly fail to provide a huge variety of options for human adventure.

Mexico Cancun
Since 1974, the island of Cancun has been developed from a small fishing village to an international resort attracting over 700,000 visitors each year. Booming Cancun City, across the Nichupte Lagoon on the mainland, was non-existent 20 years ago; it now supports a population of 250,000. Such incredible growth did not just happen; Cancun was selected -reportedly by computer by a Department of Tourism task force as a development site that would bolster the Yucatan's sagging economy.

For those who enjoy the sun and surf, there are also countless beautiful beaches within a few hours drive from here. On weekends, students often take first-class buses to party beaches such as Manzanillo or Tecoman, or to relaxing virgin beaches like el Faro or Barra de Navidad. Other students often hop over to Colima City or Guadalajara to get a taste of big city life in Mexico. Either way traveling to wonderful tourist spots is easy from Ciudad Guzmán.
